Concerns over temporary loss of call centre jobs

20 August, 2009 - by Mickey Brady

Sinn Féin MLA for Newry and Armagh, Mickey Brady, has expressed his concern after being informed that up to 400 jobs may be lost temporarily from the Teleperformance call centre in Newry.

Mr Brady said,

“I have been approached by an employee at Teleperformance who informed me that up to 400 jobs may be temporarily lost from the swine flu helpline.

“It seems that the helpline did not receive the magnitude of calls they were expecting.

“The employees were also informed that anyone on permanent contracts should be relocated to the Sainsbury’s helpline or to other campaigns.

“The company has told the employees that they hope to offer them their jobs back in September.

“At times of growing uncertainty the staff at Teleperformance deserves to be told exactly what’s happening so that they can plan for the time ahead.”Críoch
