North Antrim - DAITHÍ McKAY

DAITHI McKAY was born in Ballymena, educated at St Louis’ and resides in Rasharkin. Daithí is the youngest member of Ballymoney Council and the Assembly. Tacaíonn Daithí McKay le próiseas na síochána agus straitéis Shinn Féin fa choinne Éire Aontaithe.

He sits on the Assembly Environment Committee and is the founder and chair of the All-party group on Climate Change. He is also putting forward a Bill in the Assembly for a Plastic Bag Levy. On the Policing Board, he has focused on Human Resources and compositional imbalance. He recognises the multi faceted  nature of the drugs problem in North Antrim and has organised public meetings on the matter. Daithí has also spearheaded Sinn Féin campaigns such as those for road safety improvements in Glenravel.

He believes resolutely in the right of people in places like Rasharkin to live free from all forms of sectarian harassment. He has been involved in Aid work in Palestine, and conflict resolution in the Basque Country and Kurdistan.

In North Antrim Daithí will work:

- To bring a halt to the cuts in HealthProvision especially in Ballycastle

- To focus police resources against drug dealers & to secure more provision for rehabilitation

- To implement the Bain Report &decentralise public sector jobs to North Antrim

- To ensure that rural communities will be protected by a balanced planning policy

- To secure jobs in the construction industry & develop the economic dividend of North Antrim’s tourist potential
