East Antrim - OLIVER McMULLAN
Cllr OLIVER McMULLAN is married to Sinead and has five children. Born and raised in Cushendall, Oliver has been a highly respected member of the business community for over 25 years.
Having established himself as a cornerstone of business life and community activism in the Glens over a number of years, Oliver responded to many appeals from constituents to stand for Moyle Council in 1993. Little did he know that, not only would he take the seat, but also top the poll, as he has done at every election since.
His tireless work on behalf of the electorate has become legendary and, in recent years, has extended beyond the Glens into East Antrim, in response to neighbouring citizens whose own elected representatives have failed to perform.
Amongst his many political achievements since his first electoral victory, Oliver has been Moyle Council’s first Sinn Féin Chair and the first Sinn Féin Chair of Moyle District Policing Partnership.
He has chaired many important committees within Council, as well as representing Moyle on external bodies including the North West Region Waste Management Group and the General Management Committee of the National Association of Councillors.
Oliver has served as a Board Member on the North Eastern Education & Library Board, sitting on various important committees within the Board. Amongst the most satisfying roles he performs on behalf of Moyle Council is that of Disability Champion, a subject very close to his heart. As Chair of FRIENDS, a Carers’ group, designed to support the disabled and their families, Oliver, in partnership with Moyle Council through a Joint Funding Programme, proudly helped construct a purpose built playground and community garden, in Cushendall, specifically suited to the needs of disabled persons, the first of it’s kind in the six counties.
