Adams secures Dáil debate on Irish language

15 March, 2011 - by Gerry Adams TD

I rith Ord Gnó na Dála inniu, d'ardaigh Gerry Adams, TD ceist maidir leis an reachtaíocht a bhaineann leis an Straitéis 20 Bliain don Ghaeilge agus fuair sé geallúint ón Taoiseach go mbeadh díospóireacht ar an ábhar a Dáíl an tseachtain seo chugainn.

Dúirt sé go gcaithfeadh an díospóireacht deileáil leis an Straitéis 20 Bliain; athstruchtúrú Údarás na Gaeltachta agus má tá cinneadh an tAire Oideachais maidir leis an choibhneas múinteoir dalta sna Gaelscoileanna le casadh ar ais.

Os rud é go bhfuil an gealltanas seo tugtha ag an Taoiseach go gceadófar an díospóireacht beidh Sinn Féin ag leanúint den bhrú le seo a sceidealú chomh luath agus is féidir.

During the Order of Business in the Dáil today Gerry Adams, TD raised the issue of legislation on the Irish language 20 Year Strategy and got agreement from the Taoiseach for a debate in the Dáil next week.

He said the debate must be around the 20 Year Strategy; on the re-structuring and elections for Údarás na Gaeltachta and whether there would be a reversal of the Minister for Education’s decision in raising the Pupil/Teacher ratio in Gaelscoileanna.

Following the Taoiseach's response that he would facilitate a debate Sinn Féin will press for this to be scheduled as quickly as possible.
