Government must reverse its position on EBS workers – Tóibín

20 December, 2011 - by Peadar Tóibín TD

Sinn Féin spokesperson on Jobs, Innovation and Enterprise Peadar Tóibín TD has called on the government to reverse its position on the EBS workers and ensure the company meets is contractual obligations to the workers.

Speaking as EBS workers protested in Dublin today Deputy Tóibín said:

“It is an indictment of this government that bank workers in EBS have been forced onto strike to have their pay agreement honoured by the Department of Finance, while senior managers receive full payments.

“At the same time the Department of Finance is planning to hand over in January €1.25 billion to unsecured and unguaranteed bond holders in Anglo. It is clear that the priorities of this government are with the senior banking figures and not with the normal hard working people.

“The government needs to reverse its position on the EBS workers and honour the payment to the workers.” ENDS
