Varadkar's comments are an attack on the democratic process
Sinn Féin Dublin Central TD Mary Lou McDonald has today refuted the comments by Minister for Social Protection Leo Varadkar that Sinn Féin is a threat to democracy.
Speaking today, the Sinn Féin deputy leader said;
“Leo Varadkar should be aware that Sinn Féin enjoy a substantial democratic mandate from people right across Ireland.
“Far from being a threat to democracy, we ae in fact an integral part of democratic life of people north and south, making us truly the United Ireland party.
“Leo Varadkar is a Tory. We will take him and his divisive brand of politics on.
“If Leo Varadkar should become Taoiseach after the Fine Gael election, he should call for a general election and put the decision making into the hands of the electorate. He does not hold a mandate to lead the country and the Irish public should have a say on his position. That would demonstrate his devotion to democracy.”
