Time for legacy mechanisms to be implemented - Rogan

2 November, 2017 - by Emma Rogan

Sinn Féin MLA Emma Rogan said it is time the legacy mechanisms agreed at Stormont House are implemented so that all families can get truth and justice.

The South Down MLA was speaking ahead of the general release of a documentary on Loughinisland massacre ‘No Stone Unturned’ which names the alleged killers.

Emma Rogan said:

"Mechanisms to deal with the past and provide those bereaved with a process of truth recovery were agreed at Stormont House.

“That agreement is the way forward and it should be implemented.

“For 45 years people have been waiting on inquests. People have to be given the opportunity to get the truth, across the board.

“Watching the documentary was a very powerful experience because it really goes into complexities and nearly links the pieces together.

“It is also a huge relief that it’s actually out there. All can watch it and know the depth of collusion, the cover-ups, failed investigations and continued attempts to hide the truth.

"It also vindicates our long-held suspicions and beliefs that the truth about these murders was being covered up by the very people, the RUC, that were supposed to protect us.

"We now need justice and accountability from those in authority.”
