Ennis commends GPA on gambling stance
Sinn Féin Culture, Arts and Sport spokesperson Sinéad Ennis has commended the Gaelic Players Association (GPA) for speaking out about the need to address gambling within the GAA.
The South Down MLA was commenting after the GPA issued a statement warning that gambling addiction remains a major problem within the association and urging more education and support services to be put in place to support those struggling with the issue.
“Sinn Féin fully support the GPA’s call for more to be done to tackle the growing problem that exists,” Sinéad Ennis said.
“We also commend the GPA for the great work they carry out to assist their members who are facing mental health issues.
“It is vital that anyone who is struggling with gambling or any other serious issue can access the services they require. It is equally important to ensure that education and appropriate preventive steps are taken to protect younger people from falling victim to destructive addiction of any kind.”
