‘Health core grant funding must continue’ - Sheehan

13 February, 2018 - by Pat Sheehan

Sinn Féin Health spokesperson health Pat Sheehan has called for core grant funding to community and voluntary sector organisations from the Department for Health to continue in line with the direction set by Michelle O'Neill.

The West Belfast MLA said: "In January 2017 Michelle O'Neill announced that Department of Health core grant funding to the community and voluntary sector (CVS) would continue until a new core grant scheme was developed and open to applications.

"As Health Minister Michelle O'Neill believed that a previous decision taken to stop core grant funding would leave a significant gap in relation to the important advocacy role of CVS organisations.

"It was decided a new scheme, open to applications from all CVS organisations to support their core functions was needed."

"However, until a new scheme has been developed it is important that the existing core grant funding continues.

"I have written to the Permanent Secretary of the Department of Health to seek assurances that core grant funding will continue in line with the direction of travel set out by Michelle O'Neill as Minister for Health."
