Irish government and EU need to stand up to British government on rights - Anderson
Sinn Féin MEP Martina Anderson has said the Irish government needs to stand up to the Tories over Brexit and ensure the rights of people in the north of Ireland are protected.
Speaking in the European Parliament in Strasbourg, Martina Anderson said:
"The British Foreign Minister believes that worrying about Ireland is a folly. If Boris Johnson has his way then the border in Ireland will be hardened and strengthened.
"Positive and constructive proposals accepted by the British government in December are rejected by them within days and fantasy proposals are put forward instead.
"All of this to buy a bit more time for the squalid coalition agreement of the British conservatives and their allies in the Democratic Unionist Party.
"It is now up to the Irish government to stand up to Perfidious Albion.
"The British government does not care about Ireland or the people of Ireland having to salvage ourselves from the Brexit wreckage.
"We now need to see An Taoiseach and the Irish government and the EU stand up for the rights of people in the north and challenge the British government at the June summit."
