Ó Laoghaire welcomes High Court decision on GSOC

17 October, 2018 - by Donnchadh Ó Laoghaire TD

Sinn Féin spokesperson on Justice Donnchadh Ó Laoghaire TD has welcomed today’s decision by the High Court to grant GSOC access to transcripts regarding investigations that are ongoing.

Speaking this afternoon, Teachta Ó Laoghaire said;

“Today’s decision by the High Court to grant access to transcripts held by the Special Criminal Court to GSOC is a welcome.

“The transcripts relate to two sensitive cases currently under investigation by the Garda Ombudsman; namely the cases of how Gardaí dealt with the cases of Adrian Creaven Mackin, the killer of Garda Tony Golden, and Eimantas Valteris.

“The cooperation of state bodies is integral to the work that GSOC do, and they should not be inhibited in any way when carrying out investigations.

“Both these cases carry their own sensitivities, and it is of the utmost importance that any final decision made in relation to them is done so with all information being made available.”
