'Site must be earmarked for social housing' - Ní Chuilín
Sinn Féin housing spokesperson Carál Ní Chuilín MLA has said that a piece of derelict land in the Carrickhill area should be set aside for social housing.
The Department for Infrastructure has declared the land at Clifton St/Regent St as surplus to its requirements. There were plans to reallocate the land for purposes other than housing but that decision is now being reviewed after representations from the North Belfast MLA.
Caral Ní Chuilín said:
“As part of my ongoing lobbying for social housing in North Belfast I contacted the Department for Infrastructure to ascertain why land at Clifton Street/Regent St in the Carrick Hill area had not been given to the Housing Executive.
“As a result of this intervention the Department for Infrastructure has said it was not made fully aware of all the facts before making a decision on the future use of the land.
“That decision has now been suspended pending a further review of all the relevant information.
“I am calling on the Housing Executive to now put forward the strongest case possible ffor the land to be allocated for social housing in North Belfast.”
