Multi Party Talks

After the collapse of the first IRA cessation Sinn Féin undertook a series of political initiatives to put the peace process back on track and succeeded in this in 1997. In September 1997 all-party talks formally began in Castle Buildings in Stormont. Strand 1 dealt with relationships in the North and was chaired by the British Government, Strand 2 dealt with All-Ireland and was chaired by Senator George Mitchell and Strand 3 dealt with British Irish relations.
