Ward Renews Call for Local Parades Forum to be established
Sinn Féin Representative for Banbridge and District, Cllr. Dessie Ward, has reiterated his call for a local parades forum to be established following Friday night's large scale band parade in Banbridge Town Centre.
Cllr. Ward said:
"As predicted, last Friday night's large scale band parade in the town caused alot of disruption to the lives of many people. I think this once again highlights the need for a parades forum to be established locally whereby the parades organisers sit down with local elected representatives, taxi drivers and others to discuss ways of keeping the disruption surrounding these parades to a minimum and to discuss the other issues of concern.
Cllr. Ward concluded:
"Many people I speak to are of the view that they couldn't care less if these people want to parade 24/7 as long as they are able to go about their business as normal and without fear. Unfortunately this isn't the case and as long as a significant number of people hold these views the parades organisers are morally obliged to sit down with the rest of us to discuss a mutually satisfactory way forward. Sinn Féin are more than willing to engage constructively in any such forum." ENDS
