Concern at PSNI shots in South Armagh

19 September, 2007

Sinn Féin councillor Anthony Flynn has expressed concern at the shooting incident in the Mullghbane/Forkhill area on Tuesday night where the PSNI claim they fired a number of shots at a lorry they allege failed to stop at a checkpoint.

Cllr Flynn said:

"The PSNI have to recognise that opening fire with live rounds, particularly at a time when the roads are busy with people returning from work, is dangerous.

"It is not that long ago that the PSNI killed a man in a similar incident.

"The PSNI have a job of work to do in winning the confidence of people in this area. Any suggestion of a cavalier attitude in the use of guns will make that job much more difficult." ENDS
