Anderson welcomes news of 450 new jobs for Derry
Sinn Féin Foyle MLA Martina Anderson has welcomed the news that a contract between Stream and BT is to create 450 new jobs in the Waterside area of Derry.
Ms Anderson said:
"This is a good news for the city that a new contract between Stream and BT is to create 450 jobs .It will give a welcome boost to the Derry economy and will also give a much needed boost to the traders in Duke Street, Spencer Road and the Waterside area in general.
"I also welcome the decision to bring these jobs to the Waterside area of the city as it is important that the city of Derry grows together and not as two separate identities. It is vitally important that we increase our infrastructural development so that we can continue to attract job opportunities into the North West.
"Derry has one of the worst records of economic inactivity; we are hoping that these jobs will be a beginning of a reduction of that. I am currently lobbying the Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Investment Nigel Dodds to bring more investment to the West of the Bann particularly Derry, as it has been neglected by direct rule ministers for generations.
"During question time in the Assembly this week I raised concerns about economic inactivity levels in Derry and the need for social requirements to feature in procurement contracts in the times ahead." ENDS
