Ramsay calls for Action on Child Poverty
Sinn Féin's Sue Ramsay MLA (West Belfast) will put a motion before the Assembly today, September 25th, calling for action on child poverty.
Ms Ramsay said:
"The current level of child poverty is totally unacceptable. The motion that I will put to the Assembly will call on the Office of the First Minister and Deputy First Minister to confirm its commitment to the eradication of child poverty by 2020 by providing an action plan with clear targets and measurable outcomes to ensure that all children are lifted out of poverty.
"It is totally unacceptable that as our society generally is becoming more affluent the number of children living below the poverty level is increasing. We need to see urgent action to redress this failure of successive governments." ENDS
