Sinn Fein hit out at Strabane shooting

28 September, 2007

Sinn Féin Councillor Jarlath McNulty, commenting on the so-called punishment shooting in Springhill Park area of Strabane last night in which a man received gunshot wounds to his shoulder and knees has said that there can be no justification whatsoever for this brutal attack.

Cllr McNulty said,

"There can be no justification whatsoever for this brutal attack last night. Working class communities right across the six counties have long recognised that such actions offer no long-term solution to problems within the community and are in fact totally counter-productive.

"While the number such attacks has steadily declined to the point whereby they are virtually non-existent in most areas- it is obvious that there is still a small number of people in this area who still refuse to accept the reality that the community demand a peaceful and better future for this and future generations."
