Senator Doherty welcomes promise of Seanad debate on Donegal employment crisis

3 October, 2007

Following Sinn Féin Senator Pearse Doherty’s demand in the Seanad today that government address the house on the issue of high unemployment in the Donegal region Donnie Cassidy has agreed to allocate a half day of Seanad time to debate the issue.

The Donegal Senator said:

“I welcome the prompt response by Senator Cassidy to the issues I raised this morning in the Seanad on Donegal’s employment crisis. It is also encouraging that during the proposed debate we will also have an opportunity to discuss the IDA’s failure in addressing economic decline in the region.

“However this debate must deliver results for the people of Donegal. 18% unemployment is a stark figure and as such must prompt urgent action by government departments and related agencies.” CRÍOCH
