Sinn Féin will keep up pressure over Causeway
Sinn Féin North Antrim MLA Daithí McKay has said that the party will keep up the pressure over the controversy surrounding the Visitors Centre at the Giants Causeway.
Mr McKay said:
"Sinn Féin have deep concerns over the handling of the decisions about the Visitors Centre at the Giants Causeway by both the Environment Minister Arlene Foster and the DETI Minister Nigel Dodds.
"We need to get full disclosure so that we can not just uncover what has happened but also more importantly so that we can get a new visitors centre.
"It is clear that it would be a catastrophe to move ahead with private development proposals that would threaten the World Heritage status of the site.
"This is a natural resource that belongs to the people of Ireland that is of immense long term value. Sinn Féin's preference is for the site and the development of its facilities to remain in public ownership so that it can benefit not just the local community but our society and economy as a whole and so that we can ensure that environmental concerns are paramount.
"Sinn Féin have tabled a motion for debate and hopefully the Assembly will be able to discuss these issues in the coming weeks." ENDS
