Environment Minister must lift suspension of World Heritage Management Group
North Antrim Sinn Féin MLA Daithí McKay has called on the Minister of the Environment Arlene Foster to immediately lift the suspension on the World Heritage Management Group.
The Minister's Department cancelled a meeting of the group last month after Arlene Foster announced that she was "minded" to approve a privately developed Visitors Centre at the Giant's Causeway.
Mr McKay said:
"The cancellation of the meeting this group was due to hold last month has already drawn criticism from some of the bodies which sit on the management body and rightly so.
"Given the very real concerns about the Giant's Causeway's World Heritage Status being put at risk by the private application for a Visitors Centre I think that there is more need than ever for this group to be meeting.
"I would call on the Minister to ensure that the group resumes its business as soon as possible to ensure that all of the bodies on it are given the opportunity to voice any concerns they may have about the impact any new Visitors Centre will have on the World Heritage Site." ENDS
