all-Ireland Mental Health Promotion Campaign
Sinn Féin Health Spokesperson, Carál Ní Chuilín has welcomed the simultaneous launch in Belfast and Dublin today of the all-Ireland Mental Health Promotion Campaign.
Ms Ní Chuilín said:
"The simultaneous launch in Dublin and Belfast today by Health Minister, Michael McGimpsey MLA and Minister of State, Dr. Jimmy Devins TD is another forward step in the Suicide and Mental Health Awareness Campaign. The 'Your Mental Health' campaign being broadcast throughout the island from today will help to raise awareness of this very serious issue and will hopefully help inform those in need of assistance exactly how to access it.
"The West Belfast Suicide Awareness and Support Group and other similar groups throughout the island continue to provide an invaluable service.
"But there is still a serious problem in under-provision of psychiatric and community services for children, adolescents and young adults in the six counties. Sinn Féin has raised this problem in the past. We now need to see a strategic shift in the Health service response to suicide prevention and mental health awareness. I hope that this campaign launched today will go some way to addressing this.
"Sinn Féin would like to see the extension to the whole of the six counties of the suicide help-line and referral service presently available in north and west Belfast." ENDS
