Consultation on all-Ireland Electricity Inter-connector
Sinn Féin Armagh City and District elected representatives including Newry and Armagh MLA Cathal Boylan attended the recent Electricity Inter-connector information session facilitated by the Electricity Service at the Market Place Theatre in the city.
Speaking after the event Cathal Boylan said:
"Sinn Fein had encouraged as many people as possible to attend these information days and raise any concerns they have directly with NIE.
"It was vitally important for this consultation process to take place and for NIE to hear the real issues from the public themselves. I am delighted many seem to have taken the opportunity to do so."
The Newry and Armagh MLA also said that he had been assured by Officials from NIE that they would fulfil their commitment to return to Armagh Council with a costing for putting the Inter-connector underground, totally or partly, as soon as an Equality Impact Assessment had been completed.
Mr Boylan added:
"Sinn Féin raised the possibility of underground works and costs at a very early stage of discussions about the proposals. We are keen to judge the merits of such a proposal.
"However what we are steadfastly insisting on is that a full and inclusive consultation process takes place and that ultimately the views of those mostly impacted on by any proposed development, the residents and local communities would be given full weighting." ENDS
