Anger at threat to Dungannon Homestart Scheme

17 October, 2007

Sinn Féin MLA for Mid-Ulster Francie Molloy has expressed concern about the future funding for Homestart Schemes in Dungannon/Armagh.

He said:

"Funding for these schemes is due to run out in March 2008 yet the Minister for Health Michael McGimpsey has still not given any indication to Home Start whether he intends to continue to fund the scheme through the Children and Young Peoples Fund.

"Home Start offers support and practical help to families with children under 5 years and offers a valuable service to some of our most vulnerable families.

"Uncertainty surrounding funding of the Home Start Scheme is making it extremely difficult for both staff and for the families who require Home Start support."

The Sinn Fein MLA has asked the Minister to confirm that he will continue to provide funding for the Home Start Scheme as this is a vital service that makes a real difference to families and young children. ENDS
