Sinn Fein facilitate Lower Ormeau community engagement with PSNI
South Belfast Sinn Féin MLA Alex Maskey, speaking after Sinn Féin last night facilitated a community engagement with the PSNI in the Lower Ormeau area, has said that, "the meeting came on the back of our engagement with community representatives, residents and the PSNI aimed at tackling anti-social behaviour in the area".
The South Belfast MLA said,
"This was the first meeting of its type to be held in this area. Those present at the meeting were intended to represent a cross section of the Lower Ormeau community. The meeting itself provided an opportunity for residents to express their views on what they see as the failings of policing in this area.
"The opinions expressed at the meeting were forthright and honest, with many residents expressing the view that the PSNI were failing to adequately deal with crime in the area.
"Sinn Féin's focus in all of our engagements with the PSNI - indeed with all of the policing structures - will be to ensure that it carries out its duties and responsibilities in a fair and impartial way, as an effective civic police service, which is democratically accountable to the public. To this end it is our intention to build upon this engagement and widen it to the whole community." CRÍOCH
