Culture Minister to be challenged over blasé attitute to Irish language legislation
Speaking before tomorrow's Culture Committee meeting, where the Culture Minister Edwin Poots shall address the Committee members, Sinn Féin Irish language spokesperson Francie Brolly MLA has said that his party shall fervently challenge the Minister over his lack of provisions for the rights of Irish speakers.
Mr Brolly said,
"Irish language legislation is not a demonstration of strength by Sinn Féin, however, the past few weeks have shown a clear sign of weakness by the Minister.
"Edwin Poots shall be informed that the arguement for Irish language legislative protections is clear and straight-forward. Legislation promised at St Andrews for the Irish language, which is the the property of all, should not have presented the Culture minister with any problems.
"However, I am sure that language rights, a non-contraversial issue throughout the world, will in the time ahead be achieved in Ireland. They shall not be stifled.
"Tomorrow presents Minister Poots with an ideal opportunity to explain his rationale behind such a retrograde move last week."
