Doherty calls on North South Ministerial Council progress Foras na Gaeilge jobs in Gaoth Dobhair

25 October, 2007

Speaking ahead of a meeting of the North South Ministerial Council tomorrow Donegal Sinn Féin Senator Pearse Doherty called on the Council to push ahead with a proposal to locate 30 jobs for Foras na Gaeilge in Goath Dobhair in Donegal. Senator Doherty said the proposal was made in 2003 and is now only awaiting agreement from the North South Ministerial Council.

Speaking today he said, "Under the decentralisation programme announced in 2003 the Government proposed to locate 30 jobs for Foras na Gaeilge in Gaoth Dobhair in County Donegal subject to agreement by the North South Ministerial Council.

"In March 2006 the North South Ministerial Council agreed to locate the 30 positions in Gaoth Dobhair. However the proposal has not progressed and the Government has been dragging its feet on the issue.

"I am now calling on the NSMC, at its meeting tomorrow, to set out, with a timeframe, how it intends to implement the decision of March 2006 and to locate these jobs in Gaoth Dobhair as quickly as possible." ENDS
