Sinn Fein call for Review of Blue Badge disability parking

31 October, 2007

Sinn Féin Spokesperson on Disability, Mid Ulster MLA Michelle O'Neill has called for a review of how the Blue Badge disability parking scheme operates across the north.

Ms O'Neill said:

"Access to public facilities and to amenities is a huge issue for people with disabilities.

"However, right across Ireland there is huge anger and frustration that people are simply not letting Blue Badge holders use the parking bays that are provided for them. These bays are provided to support easier access to the shops and facilities that people with disabilities need.

"Conor Murphy and the department of Regional Development should take the lead in this and review all the aspects of the Blue Badge disability parking scheme operates across the north.

"We also have the insane situation where disabled people are being issued with parking fines for allegedly displaying their Blue Badges incorrectly." ENDS
