Harney must spell out plans for Crumlin Children’s Hospital – Ó Snodaigh

31 October, 2007

Dublin South Central Sinn Féin TD Aengus Ó Snodaigh has called on Health Minister Mary Harney spell out exactly what her plans are for Crumlin Children's Hospital after the HSE published a progress report on the new National Paediatric Hospital which is to replace Crumlin, Tallaght and Temple Street Children's Hospitals.

Deputy Ó Snodaigh said, "Yet this evening the HSE has published a comprehensive document about the new National Paediatric Hospital which it says is to replace Crumlin, Tallaght and Temple Street Children's Hospitals.

"The document makes no mention of any plans for Our Lady's and the Minister has a duty to spell out to parents who depend on this hospital exactly what her plans are.

"Sinn Féin has no opposition to the establishment of a National Paediatric Centre of Excellence but we are adamant that this should not be at the expense of other more local paediatric services.

"I find it highly hypocritical that just last week Minister Harney arrived out to Crumlin to open a new ward at Our Lady's Children's Hospital all the while it is widely expected that she plans to close the hospital." ENDS
