Time to step up fight against crime – Ó Snodaigh

5 November, 2007

Speaking as seven men appeared in court in connection with Friday's attempted robbery of a cash in transit van at Celbridge, Sinn Féin Justice Spokesperson Aengus Ó Snodaigh commended the Gardaí involved in the arrest operation and called for the fight against organised crime to be stepped up.

Deputy Ó Snodaigh said today, "The operation to arrest the seven men involved in Friday's attempted robbery was a particularly dangerous one and I want to commend those officers involved for the successful completion of their task.

"It is now time to step up the fight against organised crime. This must involve freeing up those Gardaí working on administrative duties to be re-deployed into the fight against crime.

"If we are to successfully tackle organised crime in all its forms then it is crucial that fully trained Gardaí are used in the most resourceful manner. That means taking them out from behind desks and putting onto the streets and into communities to fight crime." ENDS
