Improved rail service equates to more customers-Mc Kay
North Antrim Sinn Féin MLA Daithí McKay has said that the latest figures released by DRD showing the number of people using the Derry-Belfast railway line shows that an "improved service equals more customers". The figures were given in a response to a question from Mr McKay to the DRD Minister Conor Murphy.
Mr McKay said:
"In the last 12 months more than a million passengers have travelled on the Derry-Belfast line and the figures are getting better every year.
"In 2004/05 just over 850,000 were using the line and this has since risen significantly to over 1 million passengers in 2006/07. This figure looks set to increase again next year and in September alone this year over 112,000 people used this line.
"Its quite clear that the improved service on this line has led to more customers using it but as ever there is always room for improvement and recent funding approved for the line by the Minister is to be very much welcomed." ENDS
