Agricultural, Fisheries and Food Committee needs all-island approach - Ferris

7 November, 2007

Speaking at the first meeting of the Oireachtas Agriculture, Fisheries and Food Committee Sinn Féin TD Martin Ferris today said the work of the committee would benefit greatly from an all-island approach.

Deputy Ferris said:

"I have today requested that Agricultural Ministers Michelle Gildernew and Mary Coughlan jointly address the committee on an all-island basis.

"If we are to maximise the positive contribution this committee can make to the agricultural sector we need an integrated all-island approach, particularly for the border counties.

"We should have both Ministers in to address the committee as soon as possible so that they can provide us with their expertise and respective department commitment to support the work of the committee." CRÍOCH
