Martin McGuinness condemns Derry shooting

8 November, 2007

Commenting on this mornings shooting in Derry of an off duty member of the PSNI, Deputy First Minister Martin McGuinness said:

"I totally condemn the shooting of an off duty police officer this morning in Derry and urge anyone with information regarding this shooting to bring it forward to the police.

"The people who carried this out are the very same people who had claimed to have left bombs outside Martin Meehan's home last weekend in the hours before he died. They have no popular support and have no strategy to achieve a united Ireland.

"The war is over it is time these people woke up to that reality. They are attempting to plunge our society back into conflict. I am confident that the vast majority of people here will ensure that this does not happen." ENDS
