Youth Centres are vital part of our community - Ruane
Sinn Féin Education Minister Caitríona Ruane has paid tribute to the role youth centres play in all communities.
The Minister was speaking during a visit to Fortwilliam Youth Centre, Mount Vernon Estate, in North Belfast, where she met youth workers from the centre. The Minister said:
"Youth centres, such as Fortwilliam, are an important part of many communities. They provide a focus in the area for our local people and give the opportunity to develop cross community projects.
"Fortwilliam has developed links over the past 20 years with Holy Family Youth Centre, Limestone Road, and I know this successful relationship has helped break down barriers and build friendships.
"Many people give of their time freely to keep our youth centres operating and their commitment to this important work is appreciated."
During the visit the Minister also met with local community activists.
Fortwilliam Youth Centre is a statutory centre, established in 1984 and managed by the Belfast Education and Library Board. The centre attracts young people from Mount Vernon, Donegal Park Avenue, Shore Crescent, York Road, Grey Mount and Seaview.
