Forth attack on Cullyhanna Family – ‘deliberate intent to cause community strife’

17 November, 2007

Newry and Armagh MP Conor Murphy has said that he shares the deep concerns of many within the Cullyhanna community that there is a concerted sinister and deliberate anti-community element intent on causing intimidation and fear within the area.

He was making his comments after the property of a local family was attacked for the fourth time when a lorry was burnt out and the family home once again attacked.

Mr Murphy said:

"It is our belief that these attacks are being carried out by those seeking to exploit the brutal murder of Paul Quinn.

"There is also a strong belief within this community that this latest attack is the result of the blatant public finger pointing by those, who in the wake of Paul Quinn's murder, publicly identified this respected family as being involved in the young manss death.

"Those who are and continue to be engaged in this finger pointing cannot disassociate themselves from the consequences of their actions."

The MP concluded by, once again, calling on anyone who had any information on the murder of Paul Quinn or any of the most recent incidents to make it available to the PSNI or the Gardaí.
