Sinn Féin succeed in blocking yet another anti-Irish DUP motion - O'Neill

19 November, 2007

Speaking following a defeated DUP motion on the 'club bank' scheme for schools, Sinn Féin MLA and Education committee member Michelle O'Neill has lambasted Anti Irish language campaigners for another time wasting exercise.

She said,

"The motion on the school's club bank scheme was aimed at attacking Irish medium education by DUP MLA's Michelle Mc Ilveen and Mervyn Storey.

"In fact, as a result of an over-eagerness to attack what is part of all our heritage on this island, what the DUP have done is attack a fundraising scheme which was aimed at facilitating integrated education 10 years ago.

Ms O'Neill continued,

"Sinn Féin rightly lodged a petition of concern regarding this issue and shall continue to challenge any attempts to marginalize any sections of society.

"I would urge Ms Mc Ilveen and Mr Storey to be more cautious in their approach in the future and stop wasting the time of the assembly." Deireadh
