SDLP and UUP vote against own Ministers

20 November, 2007

Sinn Féin Assembly group leader John O'Dowd MLA has said that the response of the SDLP and UUP to the Executive is ludicrous after they voted to support an amendment criticising the Executive's legislative programme.

Mr O'Dowd said:

"The SDLP and UUP are all over the place. It is ludicrous when they vote to criticise an Executive legislative programme that was agreed by their own Ministers - a programme that coincidentally contains far more than was ever produced by an Executive led by the SDLP and UUP.

"This sort of negativity only serves to highlight how deeply in denial these two parties are about the new political landscape and their smaller roles within it.

"The SDLP and UUP have to recognise that the world has changed.

"Trying to ride the two horses at the one time is ludicrous. These two need to begin to engage constructively. This level of political disarray contributes nothing in delivering the much needed changes our society requires." ENDS
