Sinn Féin call for NI Events Company to be wound up
Sinn Fein MLA John O'Dowd, who chairperson of the Assembly Public Accounts Committee, has called for the NI Events Company to be wound up immediately after revelations of serious financial problems and a deficit of over £1 million.
Mr O'Dowd said:
"These reported financial difficulties are a matter of huge concern. They represent a significant amount of public money and I understand greater levels of further liability.
"Sinn Fein have had a number of concerns about the NI Events Company for some time, not least the failure to support events West of the Bann or in North and West Belfast.
"There has been a history of accountability problems and even its role in bringing recent events to the north has been greatly reduced.
"I feel that there is only one option available and that is for the company to be wound up with immediate effect." ENDS
