Public Accounts Committee demands report on Events Company losses

23 November, 2007

Sinn Féin MLA John O Dowd has confirmed that the Public Accounts Committee at the Assembly is to ask for a report on the massive loss of public monies by the Events Company.

Following yesterday's PAC meeting Mr O Dowd said;

"The disclosure of the massive loss of public monies by the Events Company is a matter of serious public concern and given that concern the PAC felt it was important that they examined the matter further.

"We have asked the Audit office to give us a preliminary report as soon as possible, at which point we will map out the role of the PAC in this matter.

"I am personally deeply concerned about this loss of public monies and feel the first step must be the winding up of the Events company given that even a cursory examination of the losses shows this company cannot and should not be entrusted with public funds." ENDS‏
