‎McKay congratulates Reid workers for taking stand

30 November, 2007

North Antrim Sinn Féin MLA Daithí McKay has congratulated workers at Reids Transport after the blockade at the company gates was brought to an end. Mr McKay was speaking after attending a 5-hour meeting between the administrators and the Reids workers.

Mr McKay said:

"The workers at the blockade have done themselves proud over the past seven days and, after a 5 hour meeting on Thursday, have got the assurances from the Administrator which they had requested last week.

"The Administrator will pay most of the pay arrears but not all of it. Now Ian Paisley Junior told the press on Saturday that the employer would be processing the workers' wages on Monday and that didn't happen. I think it is important that Ian Paisley Junior or the employer clarify if that offer is still on the table and if this shortfall will be made up by them." ENDS
