Derry ‘must speak with one voice’
Foyle Sinn Féin MLA Martina Anderson has welcomed this week's public consultation on the Assembly's draft Programme for Government, Investment Strategy and Budget.
Ms. Anderson said:
"I was pleased to see the number of people who came along to the Guildhall on Wednesday to make their views know during the public consultation.
"As part of the Stand Up For Derry campaign, we have been urging people to take opportunities such as this to argue the case for the North West region and I was glad to see so many people doing just that.
"There is an onus on all of us to help shape the decisions and priorities of government which will have an effect on our communities.
"Now is the time we need to be speaking with one voice and demanding that the neglect of Derry is brought to an end.
"The people have every right to demand more from their representatives and we want to see the kind of political skill shown by Minister Conor Murphy when he committed £64 million for the Derry railway despite having his bid rejected by the Finance Minister.
"It's no good people just saying there isn't enough money to go round, we need more of that kind of imaginative thinking.
"That is just one example of how this campaign can deliver tangible results and I would urge everyone to continue to lobby for this city and region in the weeks and months ahead particularly as the process of formulating next year's budget will begin in the New Year." ENDS
