Concern at threat to community projects funded by EU Peace money

3 December, 2007

Sinn Féin West Belfast MLA Jennifer McCann has expressed concern that Community Projects funded under Peace II monies may not get further funding after funding ends in June 2008.

Ms McCann said:

"Given that there is a smaller amount of money available in under Peace 3 compared to Peace 2 and that a substantial amount of that money appears to be directed towards Innovation and Enterprise I asked the Finance Minister what is going to happen to those projects delivered by the Community And Voluntary sectors when their current funding finishes.

"Unfortunately Peter Robinson said that given that most of Peace 3 monies will be used in a strategic way it was unlikely that future funding for current projects would be available.

"This is a worrying development as I know there are a number of Projects in West Belfast that provide a much needed service to the community that will be affected by this." ENDS
