13 December, 2007

Sinn Féin have retained their seat on Moyle Council after candidate Paudie McShane was elected. Mr McShane was elected following the by-election in the Glens area which saw Sinn Féin take 50% of the vote.

Sinn Féin Councillor Paudie McShane said:

"This is an excellent result and I am delighted and proud to be elected to represent the people of the Glens. I am grateful for the Sinn Féin support in the Glens area and would like to wholeheartedly thank the Glens people for coming out to vote and for ensuring that Sinn Féin remain the largest party on Moyle District Council.

"Sinn Féin have always believed that this was an unnecessary election and this vote today clearly shows that. This is a clear endorsement of the hard work of our Sinn Féin team on Moyle Council. It is also an endorsement of our MLA's and Ministers work in the Assembly and of my party's objectives nationally." ENDS
