3 January, 2008

Sinn Féin MLA Alex Maskey has welcomed an 11th hour reversal over the deportation of East Belfast resident Comfort Adefowoju and her family to Nigeria.

The family is still being held in Yarl's Wood draconian detention centre in London.

Mr Maskey said,

"Comfort Adefowoju and her family, originally from Nigeria has settled in Belfast with her children and has played a positive role in the East Belfast community and are is active in her local church.

"I welcome this second temporary reprieve and shall continue to assist the campaigners in their efforts to allow this family to return to Belfast where they belong.

"Sinn Féin is wholly committed to the rights for all our citizens and my party opposes the use of draconian detention centres for anyone in contravention of international human rights laws." Deireadh/Ends
