Bomb alert at home of Sinn Féin councillor condemned - McKay MLA

16 January, 2008

Sinn Féin North Antrim MLA Daithí McKay has condemned the bomb threat against local Sinn Féin Councillor Anita Cavlan.

Mr McKay said:

"This morning, an official at Ballymoney Council received a phone call informing them that a bomb had been left at the home of Sinn Féin Councillor Anita Cavlan.

"Ms Cavlan contacted the PSNI and currently they are searching the house.

"This is a sick threat against a Councillor who works tirelessly for her community in Antrim.

"This is not the first time that Ms Cavlan has been targeted and these sinister threats have been distressing for Anita and her family.

"Although no-one as yet has claimed responsibility for this, it is clear that those issuing these threats have nothing to offer our communities and will not deter Sinn Féin from pursing our objectives of Irish Unity." Críoch
