Attempted Abduction in Armagh

17 January, 2008

Sinn Féin Newry and Armagh MLA Cathal Boylan has urged all parents or guardians to remind young people that they should never talk or go with strangers after it was revealed that the PSNI are investigating reports of an attempted abduction of two young people in Charlemont near Armagh City earlier today.

Mr Boylan said:

"I have been told that two men in what has been described as a White Volkswagon Estate van tried to entice the two young people into the vehicle.

"The news of this attempted abduction is deeply worrying and I would ask all young people to be vigilant.

The MLA said that the individuals behind these type of abductions were menaces in society although fortunately they were a minority.

He added:

"I would ask anyone, including anyone who has witnessed anything of a suspicious nature, even if they don't think it's of relevance, to contact the police." ENDS
