Sinn Féin express grave concern at imminent deportation of East Belfast family
Sinn Féin MLA Alex Maskey has expressed grave concern over the news that East Belfast resident Comfort Adefowoju and her family may be deported to Nigeria on Monday.
The family are still being held in Yarl's Wood draconian detention centre in London.
Mr Maskey said,
"Comfort Adefowoju and her young family, originally from Nigeria, have settled in Belfast with her children and has played a positive role in the East Belfast community and are is active in their local church.
"Sinn Féin shall continue to assist the campaigners in their efforts to allow this family to return to Belfast where they belong.
"I believe a strong united public voice against this deportation of a single mother and children and against the British Home Office's intransigence, lack of compassion and short sightedness on this issue is necessary.
"I am minded of the successful public campaign last year for Lordorice and Imelda from Cameroon.
"Sinn Féin is wholly committed to the rights for all our citizens and my party opposes the use of draconian detention centres for anyone in contravention of international human rights laws and shall be looking over the weekend at different ways to halt this deportation." Deireadh/Ends
