Morgan slams Aer Lingus threat to withhold pay increases

23 January, 2008

Sinn Féin Workers' Rights Spokesperson Arthur Morgan TD has slammed Aer Lingus Management for threatening to withhold pay increases worth millions of Euros from staff which is due to them under social partnership agreement Towards 2016. Management at the airline are saying that unless new cost cutting measures are signed up to by staff then pay increases will not be paid.

Deputy Morgan said, "The pay increases which Aer Lingus management are referring to were agreed during negotiations for the Towards 2016 social partnership agreement. They have no right to bring them back onto the table now when they are looking for more commitments from staff.

"If management want staff to sign up to new cost cutting measures then they must bring them to the table in a fresh round of negotiations with workers representatives. The pay increases previously agreed cannot be part of those negotiations." ENDS
