Ruane and Loughinisland families to meet Police Ombudsman
Sinn Féin South Down MLA Caitríona Ruane will accompany the relatives of those killed in the 1994 Loughinisland massacre to a meeting with the Police Ombudsman Al Hutchinson today, Friday 25th January, in the Ombudsman's Office.
Ms Ruane said:
"The people who died in Loughinisland in 1994 were victims of the British Government's dirty war in Ireland. At least one British agent was directly involved in the murders and the search for truth and justice must continue. For 14 years the families of the six men killed by the UVF at Loughinisland have patiently waited and are fighting for justice.
"There is an ongoing Police Ombudsman investigation into the 1994 Height's Bar shooting in Loughinisland. As the years have passed, the families have raised serious questions about the murders and specifically the subsequent investigation into it, and the role of police informers such as Mark Haddock.
"Sinn Féin will support the families in their campaign. This is a priority issue for Sinn Féin. There remain serious concerns about RUC and PSNI investigation and subsequent cover-up.
"The issue of collusion will not go away. The killings at Loughinisland had a deep and lasting impact on people across this island and the subsequent revelations of British involvement and cover-up surprised no one." ENDS
