Antrim schoolboy victim of vicious sectarian assault
Mitchel McLaughlin MLA (South Antrim) has condemned the sectarian attack on a young Catholic as he boarded a bus outside Antrim Tech yesterday resulting in him having to be treated in Hospital for a fractured eye socket and other facial injuries.
Mitchel McLaughlin said;
"This attack was the culmination of a concerted campaign of intimidation by a small number of individuals who have been posting intimidating messages on an internet site. Yesterday as the youth was leaving the North Eastern Institute in Antrim town he was viciously assaulted without provocation by two individuals.
"The young man had to be taken to hospital where he was treated for a fractured eye socket and facial injuries. I have been in contact with the family who have informed me that their son is traumatised and in fear of a recurrence of the incident.
"The school and the PSNI are aware of the incident and I call on them to take the appropriate measures to ensure that all students attending Antrim Tech can do so in an atmosphere free from fear and intimidation. This type of intimidation is totally unacceptable." ENDS
